February Pillars of Care Awards

Kindergarten
Paschalis AM:
Draco: Place, has been diligent about cleaning up after himself
Hunter: learning, has been making great efforts to show his learning during class times and putting up his hand

Hazel: Care for self, Hazel has shown more independence in her work in terms writing her letters and small words.
James: Care for others, James has demonstrated care for others by letting other students share toys with him and letting them go in front of him in line.
___: Care for place, has been excellent in cleaning up her own mess and helping others do so as well.

Paschalis PM:
___: learning, has been finding a lot of confidence in his abilities and sharing his ideas more often
Layla: self, has been working on finding her voice to tell others what she needs or does not like, sometimes this is difficult and takes bravery
___: others, has been working on his communication skills and taking care of what his friends need as well as what he needs, he gives them a turn to talk and tries to respond uses hand signals and a few English words that he knows
Houng: place, takes care of classroom toys and reminds others not the throw or mistreat them


Grade 1
Nelson
Care for Learning - Huu - He focuses on his work and rarely disrupts others. He is able to work independently and get his jobs done.
Care for Place - Leah - She makes sure that everything is cleaned up and enjoys cleaning up the classroom when it needs to be done.
Care for Others -  Kaydynce - She enjoys making sure everyone is ok and seeing if they need help with anything.
Care for Self - ___ - She continues to work to tie her shoes on her own.

Grunert
Care for Learning - Whitney works hard independently and in small groups, she likes to work one-on-one with the teacher and asks questions for clarification. Whitney is willing to take on any challenge with a positive attitude.
Care for Place - ___ enjoys helping clean up the learning space. She will volunteer to organize books and help others clean up after centers and any art activities.
Care for Others - ___ is always playing with new friends outside and showing care for them when they are hurt or in a difficult situation.
Care for Self - Ryker takes care of his belongings in the classroom, he takes his time when completing any work, and is becoming more confident in himself when playing with friends and completing more difficult work in the classroom.

Cokar
Care for Learning - ___ demonstrates Care for Learning by diligently working on his tasks. He completes his work with care, taking his time. He works quiety and carefully to get his work done.
Care for Place - ___ is very helpful when it comes to keeping Room 5 neat and organized, and is very efficient when it comes to Care for Place. He will ask where things should be if he does not know, and quickly cleans up after others and himself.
Care for Others - Arinanna shows Care for Others by sharing if someone is hurt or needs attention. She will ask a friend if he or she is okay, and gives reminders to not forget lunch bags and hats.
Care for Self - Alia demonstrates Care for Self by always eating healthy snacks, being dressed for seasonal weather, and listening to her body when she needs a drink of water to fuel her brain.


Grade 2
Pulvermacher
Care for PlaceFoad
Foad demonstrates care for place by doing an excellent job of returning our late entry slips to the office, and handling our classroom recycling.  Foad keeps his work space clear, and puts his materials away after using them.
Care for SelfAmeilia E
Ameilia cares for her heart by making good choices for friends. She speaks up for herself on the playground, and advocates for her learning by asking for help to understand expectations and assigned tasks.    
Care for LearningDawson
Dawson seeks to clarify the task before beginning in order to prevent misunderstandings.  He listens during lessons, and works as a leader within his peer group, offering help to any other students who need it.   
Care for Others Cammeron
Cammeron is liked by all of her classmates.  They describe her as sweet, funny, and kind.  Cammeron enjoys working with and reading with her classmates, and is always respectful of other students and adults.

Fisher
Care for Place- Shi Yao. Shi Yao is always taking extra care to clean up our classroom. He picks up garbage or cleans up supplies on a regular basis.
Care for Self- Bennett. Bennett is taking extra care to help himself focus. He uses classroom supplies like headphones or asks for teacher support.
Care for Others- Paytinn. Paytinn takes great care to support others in the classroom. She helps fellow students with work and is always eager to share supplies.
Care for Learning- ___. ___ always works hard in class. She completes all learning tasks on time and at a very high quality.

Young
Care For Place - ___ for putting supplies away where they belong.
Care For Self - Micklan for putting his hand up and sharing his ideas during class discussions
Care For Others - Milo for sitting quietly on the carpet so others can listen
Care for Learning - ___ for always working hard to get her work finished as quickly as possible


Grade 3
Anderson
Learning- Ethan C. works hard at every task and tries new things readily.  Always willing to share his thinking.
Self - Liam L. demonstrates care for self when he is attentive to his task and uses the tools that are put in place to help him focus on his work.
Place - Matthew is always willing to clean up after others in our classroom.
Others - ___ shows care for others when he offers to work with different classmates and displays compassion for his peers.

Brink
Self-Brooklyn shows care for self by dressing appropriately for snowy, rainy or sunny weather.
Place-Connor shows care for place by helping to tidy the coat room at the end of the day which includes putting up shoes and jackets that have been left on the floor.
Others-Chudear shows care for others by answering classmates’ questions and by helping whenever she is needed.
Learning-___ shows care for learning by staying at his desk during independent work times.  He is starting to ask questions to help him clarify his understandings.

Beechey
Learning - Jason for taking the time to work on his Mr. Men poster and Cricket in Times Square comics making sure they are neat and done to the best of his ability.
Self - Landon for always having a healthy snack.
Others - Daniel for helping someone look up and spell a word during a Language arts activity.
Place - ___ was spotted picking up garbage outside to help keep Beddington beautiful.


Grade 4
Gaspar
Learning- Mohamed has shown that he takes a lot of pride in his work and has been responsible with his homework. He even showed that he is ready to move up to the next level with his spelling! Keep up the great work, Mohamed!  
Self- ___ is new to our school, but that didn’t stop him from naturally displaying what care for self looks like. He is always dressed for the weather, and he makes safe choices when it comes to choosing people to play with.
Place- Ocean has always been a great leader when it comes to tidying up the classroom. She also comes to school with stories about how she cared for place at her home, too!
Others- Adam has been working really hard towards earning his care for others award. He has been quick to respond to a student in need, and he does so without hesitation!

Binks
Learning: Finn - Finn shows dedication in his learning by working to complete all tasks to the best of his ability. He is willing to help other students during work periods and is always eager to share ideas and information with the rest of the class.
Self: Aurora - Aurora always participates in GoNoodle activities within the classroom. She understands how these movement breaks demonstrate healthy choices. She was away for a few weeks and when she came back she made good choices and jumped right into her learning with a positive attitude.
Others: Tristan: During our social studies research projects, Tristan took time away from his own project to help other students with their Powerpoints. During presentations, Tristan stood by the presenters to help them hook their computer up to the Smartboard and helped with any technical problems that came up.
Place: Lexy: Lexy helps to clean up the classroom. She is often one of the only students to notice and tidy up shelves and bins throughout the classroom.

Craig
Learning- Jarvis has been working very hard on his story the past month. He has shown a passion in creating stories that are interesting and detailed. He has been very proud and excited to show the class.
Self- Fatima Z. is always on task and ready to help others when she finishes early. She completes work daily to the best of her ability.
Place- Blake shows care for place by cleaning up after himself and teaching others the importance of not littering.
Others- Derick is always willing to work with new people and gets along with everyone outside and in the classroom.


Grade 5
Locke
Care for Self:
Justin shows care for self by setting personal learning goals that are specific, timely, and achievable.  He puts a great deal of thought and effort into his schoolwork – both the quality and the final product.
Care for Others:
Tydeus is an extremely kind and caring classmate who works well with others when working in partners, and in both small and large groups.
Care for Place:
Ivan helps to beautify our classroom space by donating his artwork to the class.  He also makes sure that the coat-hook area is neat and tidy at the end of each day.
Care for Learning:
Breton cares for learning by putting his best effort into his academics.  He asks for help when necessary, and continues to work on editing and revising written pieces.

Wallace
Care for Self: Savannah
Savannah cares for self by always having a water bottle to drink when she is feeling tired. She also always asks questions when she does not understand instructions.
Care for Learning: Gary
Gary puts a lot of effort into his school work. If he does not complete a task at school he works on it at home and always returns it the next day.
Care for Other: Samantha
Samantha is very good with helping her classmates stay on task. She stays quiet during instructional time and always willing to help her peers understand material during group work.
Care for Place: Sophia
Sophia is very friendly to everyone and always smiling. She befriends everyone that crosses her path. She is always willing to include her peers in both the classroom and at the playground. She really makes the school environment nice to be in.

Sadowsky/Laird
Care for Self: ___ - ___ shows care for self by recognizing what she needs to do in order to do her best work and be in the green zone for learning. She uses strategies to get herself ready for difficult tasks and advocates for herself when she needs to.  
Care for Others: Kiana - Kiana shows care for others by going out of her way to make people happy and by always showing respect to everyone she meets.
Care for Place: Jayme - Jayme shows care for place by picking up litter, returning laptops to the laptop cart that other students leave lying around and by returning classroom belongings to their place without being asked.
Care for Learning: ___ - ___ shows care for learning by being a hard worker, asking questions when he needs help and by learning to put his best effort into his work.


Grade 6
Harris
Care for Self: Seth - completing and catching up on any missed school work and assignments
Care for Others: Millie - always willing to cooperate with peers and teachers
Care for Place: Aiden - taking care to tidy up the classroom library books
Care for Learning: Damien - staying in multiple recesses and lunch recesses to stay ahead in assignments and prevent homework.

Shackelton
Care for Self: ___ -   He always has a smile on (which is infectious), eager to try to new concepts, and lately has been working independently using Razkids.
Care for Others: Joey - She consistently helps to make those around her better.   She actively helps students discover new strategies to solve problems.  She is an excellent and contributing team player.
Care for Place: Isaiah - Constantly helps clean up after basketball practice, ensures his and his groups spots are always tidy after using them, thank you!

Care for Learning: Carmen - Coming from a new school and province is enough to make any student feel overwhelmed, emotional and behind a step;.  Carmen constantly puts her best effort in any activity and strives to the best she can be.

Desiree: care for others, shows great concern for others when they are hurt and takes steps to console/make sure that problems are solved peacefully

Care for Self: Shaylea, for getting his outdoor gear on by herself and making sure she checks her work before showing it to the teacher.

Room 3 - Grunert
Care for Self: Eyas shows care for self by cleaning up after himself, taking care of his personal items and school materials, and takes his time to complete work to the best of his ability
Care for Others: ___ shows care for others by working with a different classmates during math and literacy centers, she will assist peers when looking for a missing item or running an errand around the school, and is always willing to work with classmates when learning new concepts in any subject.
Care for Place: Rilley shows care for place by cleaning up after himself following snack, lunch, or independent work times, he will assist his classmates in cleaning up their stations during math and literacy centers, and he will often pick up items around the classroom and school that are or are not his.
Care for Learning: Evie shows care for learning by taking her time and always trying her hardest when completing a variety of learning tasks and she enjoys helping her classmates sound out words when completing writing or reading activities.


Room 4 - Nelson
Care for Self:  ___ shows care for self by cleaning up after himself and showing effort in keeping his belongings tidy.
Care for Others: Simon shows care for others by cleaning up after Math Centres and at other messy times throughout the day.
Care for Place: Teya shows care for place by cleaning up after herself after snack or lunch time and at independent learning times. She is often volunteering her time to make sure the book area is put away properly.
Care for Learning: Ehtisham shows care for learning by taking his time and always trying his best to complete many learning activities. He enjoys learning and participating in Literacy Centres.


Room 5 - Cokar
Care for Self: Nathaniel demonstrates care for self so he can be a focussed and attentive student. He does this by sitting near the teacher, moving away from any distractions, asks for help when he needs it, and is very aware of how he is feeling.
Care for Others: Meerab is a kind and caring student. She will ask others if they are okay, and is especially considerate with a special friend by helping if she is “stuck”. She is truly compassionate.
Care for Place: Vincent quickly and efficiently cares for place by pushing in chairs, putting materials back into book bins, finding homes for items that are lost, and keeping things organized.
Care for Learning: Carman doesn’t hesitate to ask questions or offer her ideas during classroom discussions. She is attentive and focused on her learning activities. She takes her time and puts considerable effort into her work.


Grade 2
Pulvermacher
Care for Place – ___ demonstrates care for place by maintaining a neat and organized desk tray, and tidying up our coat room every day.  Nicole helps her peers at clean up time, and always does any extra jobs she is asked to do.
Care for Self – Abigail cares for her heart by choosing to surround herself with kind and caring people.  She speaks up for herself on the playground, and advocates for her learning by asking to take work home when she feels like she has catching up to do.
Care for Learning – Ethan W. takes the time to complete his work thoughtfully, especially when he is writing stories.  He loves to share his writing with his teachers and classmates.  Ethan checks to make sure he knows what the expectations for learning are, and helps clarify them for his peers.
Care for Others – Kori-Lynne is liked by all of her classmates.  They describe her as funny, caring, and sweet.  Kori shares her learning materials with anyone who asks, plays with lots of different groups of students, and treats everyone with kindness.


Fisher
Care for Self: Elizabeth. Elizabeth always chooses a healthy snack to eat. She also makes sure to put on all appropriate outside gear when it is cold.
Care for Others: Logan. Logan is always kind and compassionate towards other students. He helps other students with work and is always eager to share supplies.
Care for Place: Surri.  Surri is always eager to help clean up the classroom. She makes sure to put communal supplies back where they belong.
Care for Learning: Sadie. Sadie always completes her classroom work diligently. She works hard at every tasks and always asks for help when she needs it.


Young
Care for Self: ___ - for working hard to find ways to help himself concentrate and complete tasks.
Care for Others: Maryam - for always sitting and working quietly so she doesn’t disturb others.
Care for Place: Lucas - for picking up garbage and item on the floor that don’t belong to him to keep our classroom clean.
Care for Learning: ___ - for working so hard to improve the neatness of his printing.


Grade 3
Anderson
Care for Self: Gregory makes solid choices for himself about following rules that are meant to keep him safe at school.
Care for Others: Kaylee shows care for others when she helps get other students going on their math in the morning!
Care for Place: Liam A. is always busy cleaning up, organizing and putting away materials that others have used.
Care for Learning: Shyana taught her peers how to use photo booth and then to attach pictures into IRIS so our learning goals are documented!!  Super excited.


Brink
Self-Haider shows care for self by keeping a positive attitude.  He laughs when things are funny and snickers when a bad joke is told.  He has a great sense of humor.
Others-___ shows care for others in many ways.  He sat with Brady during the downtime at the Christmas concert.  He brought his friend’s belongings to the office when his friend had to go home.  Ahmad is a kind and thoughtful friend.
Place-___ keeps her desk area neat, inside and outside.  Even after having lunch in the classroom because of the cold weather, Laiba’s desk was spic and span.
Learning-Vanessa chooses a spot close to the teacher so she can avoid being distracted by others who may want to talk to her.  She is keen to learn more and tries her best.


Beechey
Care for Self: Landon - For following the rules around the school and listening to the instructions that keep him safe.
Care for Others: Sage - For finding people to play with at recess when they were lonely.
Care for Place: Jason - For keeping his desk drawer and are clean.
Care for Learning: ___ - For reading quietly during quiet reading even if others around him are talking



Grade 4
Binks
Care for Self: Blake for making positive choices within the classroom and outside. Blake is starting to ask for help when he needs it and make decisions that show respect towards himself and others.
Care for Others: Julie for helping another student with reading when we were sharing stories from our journals. Julie was very patient and helped the other student sound out words or would whisper sentences so that student could read them out loud.
Care for Place: ___ for staying organized and helping clean up items in the classroom. She is always willing to help others find items or clean up.
Care for Learning: Sawyer for staying focused and completing all of his work. Sawyer is beginning to push himself with his learning by re-reading his writing, adding details and adding in information that he finds interesting.


Craig
Care for Self: ___, for taking hold of his learning by moving on to next steps independently. He sets goals for himself at the beginning of the week and works towards achieving them daily.
Care for Others: ___, for always being open to making new friends (especially with new students to the school.) He comes in with a smile and easily gets along with everyone.
Care for Place: Qiana, for always keeping her working space tidy and when it is classroom cleanup time she stays on task to get her duties done.
Care for Learning: Anna, for always being focused and extending her work independently, when she is done early. She is excited for all new learning topics and stays engaged during all lessons.


Gaspar
Care for Self: Zack has been demonstrating consistent care for self since school has started. He removes himself from situations that he does not feel comfortable with, he knows where safe places to play are, and he is always in a happy and positive mood as a result.
Care for Others: Maheen’s on-going help with her classmates is always evident. She helps her peers without being asked, and she anticipates how others could use her assistance.
Care for Place: ___ has been working diligently are caring for her classroom. Her quiet, yet focused cleaning and organizing efforts have not gone unnoticed.
Care for Learning: Fatima’s love for school is obvious to everyone around her. She is known to take care of her learning materials, works towards her goals, and is passionate about growing further.



Grade 5
Room 19 Laird/Sadowsky
Care for self: Elias shows care for self by always ensuring his work is done on time. He also does not take things too seriously and always appears to be having fun while also standing up for himself.
Care for others: Tyrone shows care for others by treating them nice and with respect. He works quietly in class and does not cause a distraction to others trying to work.
Care for place: Aengus shows care for place by voluntarily helping to clean up the classroom and the space around him. He also puts rulers and markers away even if they are not his.
Care for learning: Mandy shows care for learning by remaining quiet and attentive when a teacher or classmate is talking. Mandy is also an active participant during group discussions.


Room 16 - Locke - Peer Nominated
Care for Self:  Kirsten shows care for self by always drinking water and packing healthy lunches.  She keeps her workspace clean and organized.
Care for Others:  Tallia shows care for others because she treats others with respect and is kind to everyone.  
Care for Place:  Emily shows care for place by cleaning the whole room and staying a little late after school to take care of the class and get it organized.
Care for Learning:  Lukey shows care for learning by getting his work done on time, staying on task, and trying his absolute best.


Room 17- Wallace
Care for Self: ___ shows care for self by staying on-task and getting her work done. She is always responsible and respectful of her computer.
Care for Others: Ian shows care for others by always using his browsing stick when in the library. This greatly helps Mrs. P keep the library books organized so that they are easy to find.
Care for Place: Amrit shows care for place by telling our class a joke at the end of the day. He always does his best to make his classmates laugh and feel good before leaving. This really helps create a positive classroom environment.
Care for Learning: Louis shows care for others by being quiet and respectful so that his classmates can and himself can learn. He has been doing a fantastic job of listening to instructions and getting straight to work.



Grade 6
Mrs. Harris Room 15
Care for self: Brian shows care for self by taking the time to complete all his assignments in class the best he can. He also puts forth the best effort for himself.
Care for others: Isabella shows care for others by including people in groups and helping those around her in the classroom.
Care for place: Ariella shows care for place by voluntarily taking down the chairs in the morning to start the day.
Care for learning: Kyle B. shows care for learning by being on task in all learning activities whether that be group work, reading, writing or Phys. Ed. He is always doing his best in the learning environment.


Mr. Shackelton Room 14
Care for Self: ___ demonstrates care for self by always doing his work, never distracting those around him, and asking teachers for extension tasks when done the work in lesson.
Care for Others: Danika constantly supports others during lessons, with reading, handing documents out, and always asks the teacher what she can do next to help the class!  Keep this up at your new school!
Care for Place: Michelle deserves this award for without being asked, took the initiative to sweep the classroom after our Maker Space lesson.  Thank you!  
Care for Learning: Debbie recently received the only level 4 in the classroom on her short story.  She constantly asks how to improve and strives for that higher level of achievement in all she does; she is an inspiration for the class!
